Beards at the ready

Thursday, 29 July 2010

It's time to drink the kitty! See you all on Saturday at The Black Sparrow - kick off is 2pm and lunch (in the form of a burger) will be provided.

There's a few folks who still owe the kitty money - see the stats for details - so please bring cash to pay your debts. Ringers and reserves, if you've not played as many games as most of the Hardcore, then I'd kindly ask you to bring some cash too to chip something into the kitty please.

Yank

Wednesday, 28 July 2010

One of Scott's mates is over from the States this week and so Scott asked if he could get a game. So please welcome Jamie tonight. Scott said he's probably not played "soccer" in four years but as a PE teacher type, should be OK.

It was Jon's birthday yesterday so belated Happy Birthday to Jon!

Speaking of congratulations, please wish the new Mr and Mrs Kelly all the best! Gordo and Baska were married a few weeks ago in Philly.

Paul persisting penalty problem

I couldn't believe it when Si told me that the game was drawn in the final minute by a penalty given away by a player playing the ball in the box. I can't say I was surprised to hear that the player was Paul.

It looks like there will be no game of fives at the FSE as there doesn't seem to be enough people fit or interested in playing. So, it's straight to the pub for burgers and beer. Yee-ha!

Beardback Mountain

Wednesday, 21 July 2010

A week on Saturday is the FSE - so get those beards on the grow and look out your cowboy hats! Beardback Mountain is ON! I'm still waiting on quite a few of you getting back to me with whether you want to/ are able to play fives that day before lunch. Please let me know ASAP so I can book the pitch.

This week, Jon is away and won't play for the first time since October last year! That's an impressive run. However, we do welcome back Ross after doing something nasty to his ankle. He warns he has no fitness but is raring to go. Foxy is also missing as he's babysitting and my back is still knackered. Paul is the tenth man.

Pick 'em yourselves

Wednesday, 14 July 2010

  • Neil's at a wedding
  • Foxy's babysitting
  • Stuart's got a cough (hey, it' better than his hay-fever excuse)
  • Ross is fit and ready to play but didn't tell me in time
  • My back is busted
  • Alan's back from holidays
  • Paul's playing
  • Robert's back
  • Grant's toe is hopefully up to the job
Therefore the squad is:
  1. Alan
  2. Si
  3. Kyle
  4. Scott
  5. Andy
  6. Jon
  7. Steven
  8. Paul
  9. Robert
  10. Grant
I've got no time to get any teams sorted so if someone sends me teams, great. If not please bring both tops and you can pick them on the battle field.

Gave a good game!

Old man

Thursday, 8 July 2010

Sorry chaps - that was shaping up to be a pretty close game last night until I turned into a decrepit old man. It seems my sciatica is a bit worse than I realised. I'm off to the chiropractor's at lunch to get cracked and shouted at no doubt.

Stats have been updated

Hardcore, what will be the score?

Wednesday, 7 July 2010

Alan's on holiday, Ross is injured and Martie is still AWOL but that still leaves ten Hardcore for only the fifth time this year.

I'm back after three weeks off, Andy and Scott are back after two weeks off. Hopefully, it won't be too pacey a game! Mr Bruce has picked the teams.

F.S.E news - we have a venue. This year's will be at The Black Sparrow. It's another one of Steve's Uncle's pubs so Uncle Dave has kindly agreed to do us two for one on the burgers which sound great and should save some cash. Take a look at the menu.

A few insignificant people missing this week:

Ross, Scott, Iain, Martie and Andy (note I placed them in order of ability)

So in we have:

Michael and, making his first appearance for us, Donnie. He's a PE teacher and informed me (when slightly intoxicated) he was fairly good.

On another note. I have new boots, I know what colour they are, I don't look like a clown any they weren't cheap, first one who says anything will find out how sharp the studs are on there face.
